today's scent of the day is O Captain, My Captain! (navy rum, leather scabbard, coconut hair, sliced pineapple, ocean, cigar smoke and morning fog) by Stereoplasm. wearing this instantly transports me to a quiet private beach, sipping piña coladas by the sea as the waves gently lap against the sandy shore. it’s only tuesday, but scent-wise i already feel like i'm enjoying a carefree saturday morning.
in the bottle, there's a sweet yet acidic pineapple at the forefront with a very light coconut supporting it. there's also a subtle aquatic element with some salt in the background, though i can't really get the leather or smoke notes among the fruit.
things change quite a bit on my skin after application - the pineapple unfolds in complexity, from a slightly more two-dimensional sweetness to a more well-rounded one. within 5 minutes of wear, the rum also becomes detectable with a mildly-strong alcohol note, and the fruitiness of the pineapple and coconut is kept grounded with the barest hint of leather and a slight tendril of smoke.
as a perfume oil, this is a relatively personal scent with a low throw, and lasted about 3 hours on my skin.
O Captain, My Captain! is quite a fun scent to wear, being almost 95% in the fruity-gourmand category, but the 5% of soft leather and smoke make quite a difference and elevate this scent beyond mere tropical fruitiness. throughout the entire wear, the coconut also follows the pineapple extremely closely, like a puppy with its master. together with a generous pour of rum, the net result is something not unlike a wearable interpretation of a piña colada. definitely something i enjoy wearing when in a more whimsical mood, or simply wanting to enjoy a fun beach getaway through scent. 7.5/10.

this review is of a perfume that i had purchased secondhand at regular price with my own money. i wasn’t asked to review this scent as a condition of receipt and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Stereoplasm and as always, all opinions remain my own.
O Captain, My Captain! was released in the Inked Club collection in 2019, though i had gotten mine in a secondhand purchase since i had missed the boat (pun intended) on snagging it before it was discontinued.
as such, it's not in the general catalogue at present, but it may make a return with Stereoplasm's Cabinet of Curiosity or may be available for purchase as an unlisted fragrance – just need to drop them a note in advance to check if they can make it for you.
