Death And Floral - The Blues Are All The Same

as a lover of music and sweet scents, one of the perfumes that i was most excited to try from my recent Death And Floral haul was The Blues Are All The Same (smooth vanilla cognac, aged barrel wood, and sticky honey). it's a beautiful example of the brand's specialisation in literature and music-inspired scents - The Blues Are All The Same was inspired by the song 'Blues Run The Game' originally written by Jackson C. Frank and later recorded by many notable artists including Simon and Garfunkel.

in the bottle, this is a warm and richly-sweet scent, not unlike the comforting feeling that you get when your favourite song just happens to come on the radio (or on Spotify shuffle, moving with the times). as with good music, all the notes blend together beautifully - the honey and vanilla give a rich sweetness to the subtle hint of mature alcohol in this, while the soft wood helps to round the scent out more fully.

on my skin, the honey develops tremendously and 'sticky honey' doesn't even begin to come close to describing the heights that this reaches; this is an entire mason jar filled to overflowing with decadently rich, golden-amber sweetness, and the touch of vanilla and mature cognac on the edges seriously make me question why all edible honey doesn't come close to smelling this good.

i initially did lose most of the soft woodiness as it was mercilessly engulfed by the honey, but that's a tradeoff i considered totally worth it, and the woody base did return after about fifteen minutes of wear when the scent stabilised better on my skin. overall, The Blues Are All The Same lasted for just under three hours on my skin with a relatively personal throw.

just like with the blues, the beauty of this perfume lies in its soul, without the need for any fancy accompaniments or flashy distractions. it's a simple and straightforward scent, yet with a whole lot of depth coming from both its inspiration as well as its power to resonate so well with one's mood and emotions in any time and any place. this is one of those scents that i really consider "my skin but better" because it wears so well - i'd reach for this equally in both celebration and needing comfort, or calmness and careless fervour. so glad that i bought a 5ml of this one, because it's going to be one of my main riffs for a while. 9/10.

wherever i've gone, wherever i've been and gone, wherever i've gone, the blues... they're all the same.
