2020 has really been crazy so far, though seeing the parade, flypast, mobile column and the Red Lions in the morning and afternoon today really struck home that despite all the challenges we've faced so far, this 55th celebration exemplifies our resilience, our togetherness, our adapting to whatever life throws at us and emerging stronger for it.
to complement the red/white outfit i picked out for the day, i decided to wear Parchment Studios' Celebration (The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald - a party of sparkling champagne, creamy orange, a hint of juicy strawberries on a musk and vanilla base note).
my initial sniffs of Celebration from the bottle yield a light fruity scent vaguely reminiscent of a bowl of strawberries and cream, where the sweetness of the strawberries is brought out by the citrus from a generous squeeze of orange over the top. the cream is also elevated by a dose of soft vanilla, and there's something almost-bubbly in the background that provides a nice contrasting backdrop to the dairy.
on application, the scent is pretty stable and remains largely the same, though the strawberries and orange cease to stand alone as separate components and come together better over the vanilla and cream. the bubbles in the background also become more daring and an additional note not unlike a light alcohol begins to emerge over the 3 hours or so of wear.
overall, Celebration reminds me of a glass of fruity moscato: a light and refreshing toast of bubbly joy, sweet and brimming with youthful exuberance, and filled with hopes and dreams and best wishes for the future ahead.
