with halloween just come and gone again - i found myself indulging in some new scented treats that looked like candy and smelled good enough to eat.
a short while back, Kimberly from Athame and Alchemy had kindly reached out to me on Instagram and sent me some wax melts for review together with my purchase of some of her products. it seems like both of us share a common love for sweet treats this season, because for her first halloween collection she had come up with these delicious gourmand-scented wax melts in chocolate candy bar forms. (if i didn't know better i would have thought these were really pretty white chocolate bars!)
enter the aptly-named Snicker Skull (gourmand ~~ Hot Pan Dulse from the Oven then sprinkled with Cinnamon Sugar and filled with Fluffy Vanilla Buttercream… Warm and Delicious. This smells like a fresh Snickerdoodle cookie with Vanilla Frosting!) which lived up to its name for those confectionery cravings that pop up from time to time.
the halloween candy bar melts come in a smaller format than the usual store offerings - each portion broke off easily and was a good size for my little melter.
the smell on this was a real welcoming treat - the aroma of fresh vanilla snickerdoodles filled the air the instant that i opened the brown paper bag that this one was wrapped in. i would keep a block in solid form to enjoy the scent longer, if not for the fact that i'm genuinely worried that the realistic yummyness of this aroma is very likely to attract (or at the very least, confuse) the ants that trespass in my house every now and then.
Snicker Skull is a lovely gourmand, with the cinnamon sugar lending that special little 'zing' to the warm sweetbread. the vanilla comes out gently in solid form and stronger after this has had some time in my melter. this is a comforting yet delicious scent; the overall vibes that this gives off are pretty close to the smell of an entire tray of baked sweetgoods emerging from the oven, to a chorus of delighted squeals.
interestingly (perhaps it's my own personal associations with cinnamon baked goods) this strikes me more as a snowy winter scent than a fall halloween one, though po-tay-toh po-tah-to, it doesn't change the fact that this is absolutely delicious to smell and makes me crave a good cinnamon sugar bun from my favourite local bakery at the train station.
in my melter, this had a good throw of a few metres and the aroma also stayed around for over six hours, turning my room into a bakery operating at full capacity (at least in terms of smell) for the whole morning and part of the afternoon. i do like a good comforting gourmand from time to time, and this one checks all the boxes for me when i'm in the mood for baked cinnamon goodness. 8/10.

this review is of a product that i had received as part of a review set that was included with my purchase. i didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Athame and Alchemy and as always, all opinions remain my own.
Athame and Alchemy's catalogue is available here; Snicker Skull doesn't seem to be available any more (perhaps it was discontinued for the season) but it may make a return next falloween.
