Solstice Scents - Riverside Sleighride

still on advent scent-lendar backlog, my next gift to myself was Riverside Sleighride by Solstice Scents, a seasonal offering from their winter collection. this promises to be a lovely seasonal atmospheric, with notes of vanilla musk, bayberry, fresh snow, white amber, fir balsam, cold winds, birch, mistletoe.

and one thing that i really love about this indie perfumery is how elegant and beautiful their sample vials look with the handwritten scent names - it's a form of artistic creativity in itself, combined with that personal touch that makes buying from indies a lovely purchase experience.

Riverside Sleighride is a perfume that truly reflects the distilled essence of its namesake. a sweet wintry greenness emerges on the first sniffs from the sample vial, bringing you on a leisurely sleigh ride through a snowy forest with the cold wind in your hair and a warm mug of vanilla latte clutched in your gloved hands. the rich vanilla really takes this to the next level, a refined sweetness that makes Riverside Sleighride both cosy and comforting.

on application, Riverside Sleighride has a surprising throw, being detectable from over an arm's length. the sweetness of the vanilla fades and the scent moves into true winter atmospheric territory with an intensely realistic woodiness from the balsam fir and birch. the bayberry also brings some complexity to the mix with a warm touch of spice, and the snow accord grounds everything with a clean freshness. it's well-blended, crisp and strongly evocative of the natural outdoors in winter.

after about five or ten minutes of wear, the scent fades quite a bit and unfortunately becomes barely detectable after half an hour. while Riverside Sleighride is truly a lovely winter atmospheric, it's quite a pity that the oil format was significantly let down by longevity issues on my skin, lasting only as long as you would expect from a snowflake indoors. 5/10.
