Stereoplasm - Orange Is Technicolour

it's customary to give (and receive) pairs of mandarin oranges when house-visiting during lunar new year, as a symbol of good luck and fortune. with the third day of the new year celebrations upon us, what better way to get into the spirit of things than with a brightly vibrant orange perfume?

Orange Is Technicolour by Stereoplasm is a distillation of everything joyful about its namesake, with notes of orange blossom petals with shea butter, house-distilled tangerine oil and apricot jam

this begins as an almost psychedelic experience of swimming in a ballpit of oranges, and gradually mellows into a more subtle yet nuanced scent evocative of the lingering sweetness that remains on one's fingers after peeling a ripe and juicy mandarin orange.

it comes as no surprise that the tangerine is the undisputed star of the show here; in the bottle, this is a refreshing scent that's just bursting with an exuberant citrusy tang from first sniff, similar to the feeling of eating a wedge of sweet mandarin orange or drinking freshly-squeezed orange juice straight from the fridge on a hot day.

all the notes work together beautifully to feature orange at its best - the apricot amplifies the already-concentrated citrusy goodness while the shea and soft florals tone down the bitterness of the zest.

on my skin, this becomes a more wearable gourmand - i had initially been disappointed when i found the bright orange becoming more muted as it progressed into the drydown, but on reflection this was for the best as the intensity in the bottle would probably have been overpowering to wear for a long period of time.

i managed to get about three hours of wear (albeit with a personal throw of less than a foot) which was fine by me, as i'm not sure i would have been comfortable smelling so 'orangey' to others. a quick note though that this bottle is from the previous "lower-concentration" batch and has rested for about half a year, so your mileage will definitely be different with the updated higher-concentration formula.

7/10 would enjoy finishing this bottle when in the mood for technicolour orange smells, but it’s a little niche and personally not a likely repurchase for me.

this review is of a perfume that i had purchased at regular price with my own money. i wasn’t asked to review this scent as a condition of receipt and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Stereoplasm and as always, all opinions remain my own.
