Carolina Herrera - 212 VIP Rosé

i usually make no secret of my fragrance hobby with my friends and family (though the reviewing side is almost always incognito). it’s definitely not as easy to relate to or discuss as more ‘mainstream’ hobbies, though conversely i feel that it’s even more meaningful when someone does make the extra effort to try to connect with me on this topic.

so it was really sweet that during a visit to one of my relatives’ houses over the lunar new year festive period, one of my uncles thoughtfully and generously gave my husband and i a full-size fragrance each for us to enjoy this year.

the one i received was an 80ml eau de parfum of 212 VIP Rosé from Carolina Herrera, which had a respectable weightiness to it in the box. it piqued my curiosity so much that i decided to take a video of the whole unboxing process - you can check it out on my Instagram here.

this is a beautiful display piece - i'm really enamoured with the lovely bottle design on this one, starting with a clear glass from the bottom and moving upwards in a gradient of frosted rose-gold that is completely opaque at the top. i also like how the magnetic cap snaps back in place after each use with a very satisfying click!

the scent is true to its official description, which overflows with fun spiritedness:

"The 212 VIP Rosé is a fragrance with a vibrant opening of Champagne Rosé, complemented by the light of Peach blossom and a joyfully feminine base of radiant Amber and Queenwood notes.

For: Her
When: Day & Night
Type: Fresh, Elegant & Dynamic

The Bottle: 212 VIP Rosé brings the lively spirit of an iconic New York City to the pace of each day and beat of each night, within its matte rosé VIP signature bottle."

the main feature of 212 VIP Rosé is the champagne top note which really kicks the scent experience off with a fun and lively sweetness that's almost bubbly on the skin. there are touches of red grapes and strawberries that accentuate the sweetness in the first half hour or so of wear, and blend well with the peach blossom as a whole. as the perfume passes the two-hour mark, a soft and sweet amber replaces the gentle floral fruitiness, with a light muskiness grounded by smooth wood. yet neither of these significantly change the character of that fun bubbly champagne, which remains the dominant theme throughout.

on average across three different wears, its performance was pretty good with a moderate sillage of two feet or so. overall, i was able to get about five hours of wear on skin, and more than eight hours on clothes and in my hair (albeit with the scent being very faint towards the end).

i agree with the classification of this scent as being both fresh and dynamic, but to me, 212 VIP Rosé is a little on the too-light, too-sweet side for dinner party elegance. it's more like a perfume that seventeen-year-old me would have enjoyed wearing to feel more 'grown-up' (while in reality not smelling significantly older or more mature than my age) and current me would wear to feel a little younger and less jaded by the troubles of adult life.

7/10 a nice scent with special meaning due to it having been an unexpectedly sweet gift from a family member. i'll enjoy finishing the whole bottle, though considering how long it would take to go through 80ml of perfume, i can't really see myself using it often enough or purchasing a replacement for it when i'm done.
