Kheimistrii – Switchcraft

{undercover review of own purchase}

with falloween (a portmanteau of fall and halloween) right around the corner, i've decided to dedicate the entire halloween month to everything sinister and spooky.
continuing the witchy lineup of my favourite sorcerous scents, today's scent of the day is «Switchcraft» by kheimistrii.
this is a beautiful showcase of perfumery magic, taking what seems like a straightforward four-note combination and turning it into something truly bewitching indeed.
close your eyes and imagine a strong dark patchouli, deeply earthy with musky undertones, the epitome of dark shadows at midnight in autumn.
yet cutting through it all is the sweet acidity of a ripe juicy orange, tempering the earthiness while elevating the patchouli to a whole new level.
oh, and just when you thought this couldn't get any better, a generous dash of vanilla comes into play to amplify the sweetness, while a soft amber shyly emerges at the same time to balance the earthiness.
«Switchcraft» is beautifully composed: a scent that's intense at its core yet light in its wear; a scent that's sweet on the outside yet complex at heart.
it's surprisingly versatile too - just when i thought the earthiness would suit a gloomy evening, the sweet orange made me change my mind; just when i thought the sweetness would match a sunny afternoon, the earthy patchouli gave me a change of heart.
truth be told, «Switchcraft» is one of those scents that's definitely not neutral in character, but perfectly fits both extremes of the emotional spectrum. i can honestly see myself enjoying this both as a pensively emo perfume and as a fun whimsical fragrance.
📝 official notes: "amber. vanilla. dark patchouli. orange."
