Kheimistrii – Witching Hour

{undercover review of own purchase}

with falloween (a portmanteau of fall and halloween) right around the corner, i've decided to dedicate the entire halloween month to everything sinister and spooky. the next few days are going to be wonderfully witchy, with a lineup of my favourite sorcerous scents!
today i'm enjoying «Witching Hour» by kheimistrii, a perfume that beautifully balances both the scary shadows and mysterious magic in its namesake.

the duality of the scent is best encapsulated in this quote from one of my favourite childhood stories:

“the witching hour, somebody had once whispered to her, was a special moment in the middle of the night when every child and every grown-up was in a deep deep sleep, and all the dark things came out from hiding and had the world all to themselves.”
— from The BFG by Roald Dahl.

there's definitely an element of darkness in «Witching Hour» as sandalwood, dirty smoke and dry autumn leaves compose a spooky picture of a starless fall night.

yet above it all rises a sweet marshmallow and soft heliotrope, a reassurance to the scared child that the witching hour is nothing to be afraid of.

even though the witching hour is the time for the creatures of the shadows to emerge into the human realm, it's also a chance to have a rare encounter with creatures of good magic, be it the tooth fairy or Santa Claus or the Big Friendly Giant.

i like «Witching Hour» as a beautiful reminder that even in times of adversity and fear, there's always a silver lining; we sometimes have to face our fear and endure the shadows in order to discover true hidden magic.
📝 official notes: "crackling warm woods. dry winds. sandalwood. fallen leaves. charred marshmallow. heliotrope."
