Damask Haus – Bittersweet Fall

today's scent of the day felt particularly appropriate given how the past week has been.

first there was the unfortunate episode of losing my Tekken save file, though it also meaningfully reminded me of what truly matters in life.

then my computer went down over the weekend, but i was really grateful how my family and friends helped me in so many ways.

distressing though these incidents may have been at the time, they were also invaluable in showing me a different perspective, bringing out the best in others and revealing the depth of true friendship... so even if i could turn back time now, i wouldn't change a thing.

and to a large extent, that's very similar to how i feel about today's scent of the day, «Bittersweet Fall» by Damask Haus.

«Bittersweet Fall» opens on a moody note, with a moderate woody influence that puts the 'bitter' in its name.

i was tempted to write it off on that basis, but just like the events of the past week, i realised that bitterness wasn't the full story in itself. it's part of a larger whole, a contrasting backdrop to highlight the main star of the show: the orange trifecta of sweet potato, pumpkin and blood orange.

this unique blend simultaneously showcases sweet with a hint of sour, and sharp citrus over smooth mellowness, each accentuated and redefined by the bitter wood beneath.

«Bittersweet Fall» was a lovely experience; overall not the most 'wow' of scents but a good reminder to cherish not just the ups, but also the downs, in life.

📝 official notes: "sweet potato, firewood, pumpkin, blood orange, autumn air."
