Smokehead Whisky

{undercover feature of own purchase}

with falloween (a portmanteau of fall and halloween) right around the corner, i've decided to dedicate the entire halloween month to everything sinister and spooky... bet you never expected that there were whiskies that could fit the bill too!
usually, the sign of a skull on a bottle (or a bottle tin) might give one reason to pause before imbibing, but not so in this case.
these two bottles are from Smokehead Whisky, an apt branding indeed for a line of heavily-peated smoky whisky.
Smokehead Whisky is known for their close affinity to rock and roll music; the bottle on the left is their original version, while the one on the right is their limited "The Rock" edition.
both the bottles and tins feature similar stylised wording comprising descriptive terms associated with the whiskies, like "peaty", "smoky", "powerful" and "intense"... though the tin of "The Rock" edition also features an embossed smoking skull design to reflect the rock n' roll scene that they're associated with.
now, while i'm not that much of a rock and roll music fan, smoke bomb level peated whiskies are definitely one of my guilty pleasures.
i like them not just big and bold, but strong enough on the nose to smack you upside the head with a smoky uppercut, and lingering long enough on the finish that you feel as if you're a dragon incarnate with each exhale.
so i can't think of a more fitting genre to suit a good heavily-peated whisky: a strong smoky dram is really like a good rock and roll concert, with the thunderous drum crashes and wailing electric guitars, the sounds (and smells) of screaming fans jumping and dancing around you, and the high-energy vibe running through it all.
rock on!💀🎸🎶
and as always, stay safe and drink responsibly!
