Libertine Bath Haus - The Maldives (sugar scrub)

another look back down memory lane, this time with a Libertine Bath Haus sugar scrub scented in The Maldives (notes of tamarind, dates, currants, coconut milk, lychee, sun-ripened figs, and salty air take us back to our island paradise), a beautiful bottled beach in a jar.

originally, the scent was actually not as strong as i had first expected; i could get a faint whiff of fruits and coconut from the top but that was about it - even after some stirring to mix with the oils which had naturally settled to the bottom over time, the scent still wasn't very apparent to me although my nose was literally almost in the jar.

i have to confess that i also couldn't smell much of any of the notes while using the scrub (just a pinch for each of my arms and legs, a little goes a long way) but after rinsing it off, everything began to change. as i toweled dry, it was quite amazing how the coconut began to emerge more fully with a hint of salt in the background and blended with a light sweetness from the dates, currants and figs. i could also get the lychee adding a more tropical feel without making the scent too sweet or gourmandy.

the scent was relatively consistent without changing too much, and the intensity developed a bit more after i had dried off, with a throw of about half a foot. texture-wise, i also like how there's a good balance of the oil and sugar crystals in this scrub - it isn't too dry or runny, and was relatively easy to scoop out what I needed with a small wooden spatula.

i went to sleep that night enveloped in a beautiful beach scent, evocative of a short weekend getaway where I had happily left all my worries behind. i could almost hear the waves gently breaking on the beach as i drifted off to sleep.

7/10 overall, i enjoyed using this a lot and waffled about on whether to purchase a replacement, though regretfully the closure of Libertine Bath Haus has since definitively answered that question for me. i was really sad to see them go, especially since their products are so good. guess i'll have to make the most of what's left of my jar while it lasts!

this review is of a product that i had purchased at regular price with my own money. i wasn’t asked to review this as a condition of receipt and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Libertine Bath Haus and as always, all opinions remain my own.

unfortunately, Libertine Bath Haus has closed its shop doors earlier in the middle of may 2020, so The Maldives isn't available for purchase any more.
