We Ride At Dawn (hot black tea with honey and coffee absolute to rise early, cardamom vanilla for comfort, bitter almonds for the lost, a shot of whiskey for strength) is a relatively-new scent released by Sucreabeille in this covid-19 period. it's inspired by all the hero healthcare workers out there working tirelessly to care for those in need despite the personal risk to themselves. these are difficult times that we're in, but the darkness only makes each burning candle so much brighter for it.
i recently took a chance with a 10ml blind buy of We Ride At Dawn, since 100% of the profits from sales go to Doctors Without Borders, and i'm so happy i did. over its wear, this scent evokes memories of two of my favourite honey drinks, yuan yang (coffee mixed with tea) and wild turkey american honey bourbon.
in the bottle, the main star is a really rich, concentrated honey note and it's beautifully supported by touches of both a complementary black tea and a contrasting strong coffee. after about half an hour of wear the honey dials back a bit and the scent goes in a different direction with a hint of sweet almonds, but only for a short while (thankfully, because almonds aren't really my thing) before it takes its final form of a light sweet honey with vanilla and a good dose of a mild whiskey. this last stage is my favourite and it really reminds me of kicking back and having a pour of wild turkey american honey on the rocks.
i was able to get about 6 hours of wear on my wrist, and about 10 hours in my hair, with a low to moderate throw of about a foot.
this is a fun scent to wear which is not overly sweet. i wasn't as much a fan of the almond morph but i can see how its presence perfectly bridges the honey yuan yang and the honey bourbon in a seamless transition.
7.5/10 i'll find myself reaching for We Ride At Dawn on days that i just want to relax and unwind, without a care in the world. my 10ml should last me quite a while, though i'm still on the fence on whether or not to pick up a replacement when i'm done with it.
