CocoaPink - Masquerade Ball

for Falloween, my scent for today is Masquerade Ball (black currant mingles playfully with melodic nuances of wild fig, cassis, black oak, maple leaf and sheathed violet) by CocoaPink. it's a fruity and fun explosion of blackcurrant, fig and maple, perfect for when i'm feeling playfully whimsical.

in the bottle, this is a nice complex blend, with the fig being the most recognisable among a well-blended combination of blackcurrant and cassis. i can also detect a very subtle woodiness grounding it, which is probably from the black oak, and i absolutely love the light floral from the sheathed violet as it weaves a cohesive thread through everything.

on my skin, the sweetness amplifies with the emergence of the maple. it's not syrupy-sweet but rather what i would imagine a maple grove would smell like - essence of maple as a soft background atmospheric without sacrificing its unmistakable characteristics. the maple adds another dimension to bring out the tartness of the blackcurrant a bit more, and the fig also becomes more well-rounded against the light sweetness.

the scent wears as a very personal one, being barely detectable at a distance of around a foot, though it had great longevity of over seven hours. it didn't change too much over the course of its wear, though the notes began to fade slowly around the five-hour mark and the last lingering kiss of maple was the final one to make its exit.

Masquerade Ball takes me on a fun scent journey wandering through a grove of fig trees and blackcurrant bushes before settling down to enjoy handfuls of these fruits under a spreading maple tree. as with the rest of CocoaPink's catalogue, this one is a unique experience that gourmand lovers would definitely enjoy. if not for its discontinuance, i would have been keen on getting a replacement for my bottle, though as it stands i will enjoy finishing what I have left. 7.5/10.

this review is of a perfume that i had purchased secondhand with my own money. i wasn't asked to review this scent as a condition of receipt and didn't receive any incentives for writing this. i'm not affiliated with CocoaPink and as always, all opinions remain my own.

i had purchased my bottle of Masquerade Ball secondhand, as (regrettably) this has since been discontinued by CocoaPink. if you're interested in some of their other gourmands, their current available general catalogue can be found here, and they also have a seasonal fall/winter catalogue here.
