Athame+alchemy - Killer Queen (wax melt)

honey is one of my favourite notes in gourmand scents, and when i saw the description of Athame and Alchemy's Killer Queen (light, warm, mildly spicy ~~ Honey, Vanilla, and a Bit of Bergamot Swirled into Sticky Honey with a Warm Base of Tonka, Tobacco, and Oud) i knew that this was something that would lift my spirits and help me to stay sane while working from home.

the melts themselves are lovely - generous-sized blocks that look like toasted mochi or (square) marshmallows straight from the campfire. i broke off about a third of a block to use in my melter and the soy was relatively easy to work with, without leaving wax flakes or crumbles everywhere.

even in solid form, this has a considerable throw and contributed to a lovely sweet honey scent in the immediate vicinity of where i had left the opened mailer on my desk. for those who don't have the benefit of owning a wax melter, these are still scented delights that would work well as a substitute for potpourri in the bathroom or in a little mesh bag in the closet, to banish those dreaded unpleasant odours that come up from time to time.

Killer Queen is quite a delightful gourmand - the honey note is generously decadent and its sweetness is brought out with the vanilla and tonka. the bergamot is very faint, a delicate contrasting floral that works well with the oud; the tobacco smoke is discernible though lighter than i expected. in the melter, the smoke and oud come out stronger without overpowering the honey.

in my melter, this had a good throw of a few metres; the aroma also lasted for about six hours, filling the room with the smell of sweet honey and vanilla for the entire afternoon and a good part of the evening. it was a deliciously comforting scent to enjoy while fielding emails from home, and i have no regrets about this blind-buy of four wax cubes, which will definitely be put to good use. 8/10.
