Sucreabeille - Shennanigator

many things have changed in this new covid-19 landscape, though one of the activities that i miss most is going to the cinema to catch the latest release and ordering an extra-large popcorn that comes in a tub bigger than my head.

sometimes though, a good scent memory of those times can be really comforting, and that was what i found with Sucreabeille's new release Shennanigator. it was included as a surprise in their August subscription bag and formally released last month, and i had the pleasure of receiving this as a full-sized freebie from them recently.

Shennanigator's official description reads: "Opens with the rich, warm aroma of buttered popcorn. Next comes raspberries, lemons, and green figs. Sweet oud lingers as a heart note" and it's the perfect gourmand perfume for bringing back teenage memories from a darkened movie theatre.

the first sniffs from the bottle yield pure popcorn with a generous helping of butter, strikingly similar to the aroma that leaps out and fills the air when the theatre attendant opens the door of the huge popcorn machine. the butter is extremely rich, good quality stuff; this is the smell of freshly-popped popcorn straight from the heat, not the slightly-stale note that sometimes ends up refusing to leave the movie theatre after the credits roll.

on application, there's a mild tartness from the raspberries and lemons coming into the popcorn and amplifying that buttery goodness. i don't actually get raspberries or lemons on their own as the popcorn remains dominant throughout; the fig does come out a little on the drydown but without stealing the thunder from the main star of the show. there's also a really lovely oud that blends a touch of sweet woodiness seamlessly with the butter and acidity, making it overall a beautiful wearable gourmand.

Shennanigator has a relatively personal throw and a decent longevity of just under three hours. it's a really fun scent to wear for those days when i'm feeling more whimsical or nostalgic - i slathered this on the ends of my hair the other day to watch tv on the not-so-large screen at home, and it really transported me back to those good times as a teenager. sometimes, the magic of scent memories is made special from our personal experiences that give it meaning and significance. i'm really grateful to Andrea at Sucreabeille for her generosity in sending me a full-size of this one, because it's something that i really enjoy wearing to remember the fun side of pre-covid life even as i spend most of my time nowadays within the four walls of my home. 8/10.
