Whisky Journey 2020 - It Begins!

it's been more than a year since the onset of the ongoing global pandemic, and what with the border restrictions and everything, my passport hasn't seen the light of day in all this time.

thankfully, i'm now the proud owner of a different travel document which i fully intend to ensure that i get maximum mileage out of - my Whisky Journey 2020 passport!

Whisky Journey 2020, organised by The Whisky Store in Singapore, brings a new twist to whisky discovery which eschews the traditional mass-conference festival concept in favour of a personalised tour that can be done flexibly at one's own pace and convenience. it's a brilliant idea and execution really, in line with the current covid-19 restrictions while still reminding us that life and its enjoyment can still go on safely with some modifications.

this is the event to be at this year for both whisky newbies and veterans alike, with 1,000 whiskies from twenty distilleries available at fifteen participating bars and restaurants over the next ten days.

i had, on the recommendation of one of my close whisky buddies, picked up early bird tickets at launch with some friends so that we could enjoy the journey together. the early bird prices were a steal, though the current price of S$45 for the all-access pass is still honestly quite a good bargain all things considered - the Whisky Journey 2020 passport comes with a free Glencairn glass, a free 10ml pour at each stop on the tour and heavily discounted prices for additional whiskies (starting at S$2 for a 10ml pour, with full bottles also available for purchase).

Whisky Journey 2020 also features some exclusive bottlings that can't be obtained anywhere else, like the Inchmurrin 2008 (available at Cable Car 1890's Saloon on Cuppage Road), the Octave Glenallachie 2008 (available at Copper on Penang Road), the Glencadam 13-year-old single cask (available at Malts in Marina Square), the Tomatin 10-year-old (available at Wala Wala Cafe Bar on Lorong Mambong) and the Glen Scotia 2006 (available at #WLJK on Horne Road).

i've said it before but i'll say it again: good whisky needs good company, and i'm really thrilled to be taking this trip with my whisky bffs who had introduced me to not just the drink but also the local whisky and bar scene. Whisky Journey 2020 is something that we've excitedly planned for ever since we got our early bird tickets in hand, and i've even used some vacation days from work to be able to take the time to enjoy responsibly at a leisurely pace.

i'll be posting undercover reviews from my journey over the next ten days, so stay tuned!

this review is of a product that i had purchased at regular price with my own money. i wasn’t asked to review this as a condition of purchase and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with The Whisky Store or any of the participating bars / distilleries, and as always, all opinions remain my own.
