An Evening of Decanting!

decants are a cost-efficient way to experience and share new scents with likeminded hobbyists, and there's just something quite satisfyingly calming about curating a mini-collection and getting to work with pipettes and sample vials.

i recently found out that a real-life friend of mine was also into this hobby, and it was with great excitement that we both agreed to share some interesting finds from our favourite houses. since this was also an introduction to indies for my friend, i decided to cover a broad spectrum of scent families with this range of homemade decants.

from the gourmands:
  • Sucreabeille - Gryla (Two vanillas swirl with sharp peppercorns)
  • Sixteen92 - Sick Sad World (dry breakfast cereal, steamed milk, used bookstore, crisp newspaper, wool jacket, knee-high black boots)
  • Stereoplasm - Enjoy Your Waffles (A welcoming breakfast of homemade waffles with plenty of maple syrup, coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Superseded by manipulative whispers from a garden of white daises, heliotrope and magnolia.)
  • Sucreabeille - Glittertrash (Watermelon Blow-Pops, baby powder, fistfulls of sticky white cake, last night's champagne and coconut cream)
on the more floral side:
  • Sucreabeille - Mouthy Broad (a cloud of cigar smoke, freshly picked roses, a full glass of whiskey)
  • Nocturne Alchemy - London (English Black Rose, Earl Grey Tea Leaves, Bergamot Tea, Black Amber, Vanilla, Cinnamon and Davana)
  • Andromeda's Curse - Bat Orchid (Orchid, Tea, Jasmine, Incense, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vanilla)
  • Sucreabeille - Rainbow Bridge (A patter of paws running through a field of daisies, lavender, and sweet peas. Marshmallow clouds pass overhead. Sunflowers, warm fur, and white musk.)
a couple of personal favourites:
  • Luminous Star Perfumes - War (creamy sandalwood, beeswax, orris, smokey tobacco, cherrywood, and soft musk)
  • Stereoplasm - La Mia Magia! (Velvet carpet, melting beeswax candles, dusty vials of dragon's blood, gilded rosewood wooden mask, labdanum, crackling electricity, well-worn playing cards.)
some greens and a realistic atmospheric:
  • Sixteen92 - Good Morning, Bayside High (sun-baked cement, rows of metal lockers, sprinklers on dry grass, towering palms, beach sand, shaved ice)
  • Stereoplasm - The Star Leaf (Morning dew, rich soil, nurturing chamomile, mossy stone, fresh herbs and all the star leaves you can eat.)
  • Darling Clandestine - My Lady Ser (For Podrick Payne and Brienne of Tarth. Deep and gritty. Muddy roads, dinted iron, whispering woods, misty fields, a cup of watered cider in a dark tavern, a flash of steel, a breath of wildflowers. But not roses. Never roses.)
and finally, the resins and darker scents:
  • Sucreabeille - Goth As F**k (A totally unapologetic haunted cathedral. Rich, dark resins, thick incense, beeswax candles, frankincense and myrrh. Cool stone floors and cloves, red musk and sassafras. Clary sage and wormwood. Guiac wood and patchouli, and a whisper of black jasmine.)
  • Stereoplasm - The Great Owl (Ancient amber, frankincense, benzoin and champaka in a hollow draped in thick cobwebs, glowing citronella and vetiver root.)
  • Sucreabeille - Cauldron (A smudge of sage; some freshly picked apples; exotic spices; juicy figs; smoky pipe tobacco; wax from the eternal candle; a smattering of other Fall delights. This is a perfect fall day full of crisp leaves.)
  • Sucreabeille - Iron Throne (Ancient incense burnt in a tomb of darkness; the blood of a hundred dragons; Bay Laurel; pure, raw honey.)
