this powerful message reflects the philosophy and beliefs behind Broken Anatomy Perfumes, the idea that though we are all broken in some way, none of us are ever truly lost.
though i don't post as much about my personal life on here as other bloggers or Instagrammers, i have my own struggles in real life that completely break me and bring me to my knees, sometimes day after day after day with no end in sight.
truth be told, i was very touched and honoured when the owner (and good friend) Ryan reached out to me last month to send me not just the brand's new discovery set comprising their three scents, but also this limited-edition challenge coin embodying their values.
this set (and coin) came at a very meaningful time for me, a reminder of faith and hope and to keep picking myself up and trying, even if it's just one day at a time. the coin has found a permanent home in my purse now, a comforting reminder that i can hold when times get tough, and a strong encouragement of the progress i've made and can see in a tangible way. in that sense it means more to me than just a souvenir of a brand, or even the gesture of gratitude that Ryan and his wife Liberty originally intended for their supporters.
i can't put it better than how Ryan and Liberty had set out their story on their website - "Let the perfume inside tell a story to remind you that no matter how damaged we can feel, we all serve a greater purpose than the irreducibly complex and broken anatomy from which we are made of. Artisan perfume for the broken in all of us."
the perfume discovery set is also extremely well-thought out and on point with their theme - the samples come embedded in soft and sticky silicone to protect them on their journey, and each has a little 'brain' on the back as well. the three perfumes featured in the discovery set are:
- Chasing Memories (Bergamot, Grapefruit, Orris, Orange Flower Absolute, Sandalwood, White Musk.)
- Brain Dance (Anise, Geranium, Cardamom, Aldehydes, Oakmoss Absolute, Ambroxan.)
- their newest scent launching 3 March 2021 - Burnt Remedy (Hay Absolute, Propolis, Smoked Cashmere, Vetiver, Wet Tobacco Leaves, Chocolate.)
Broken Anatomy Perfumes offers both local (US) and international shipping (to select zones) at prevailing rates. the business is very responsive from my experience corresponding with Ryan through their Instagram, though their website doesn't have an indicator of current turnaround time for orders.
one thing i really respect about the brand is their commitment to doing good, both in their community and worldwide. the owner Ryan is a firefighter serving in his local area (hence the reference on the challenge coin as well) and Broken Anatomy Perfumes also donates US$5 from each sample set sale and US$10 from each full bottle sale to Operation Underground Railroad for the fight against child trafficking. it's not just perfume to make you feel good, it's also perfume for a good cause and supporting the good work of a first responder over in Arizona.
