Bunnahabhain - Toiteach A Dhà (bottlekill)

it feels like it was just yesterday that i tried the Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà (46.3% abv) at Whisky Journey (review here) and christened my new cat rocks glasses with a full bottle (review here), but now more than three months on, it's time to bid farewell to this wonderful whisky.

i've waxed lyrical about this favourite of mine in previous posts on here - the Toiteach A Dhà (Gaelic for "Smoky Two") is a lovely distillation of smoke in a glass, combined with sweet raisins and salted caramel. with some time, further nuances of dark chocolate, woodiness and the faintest touch of cinnamon emerge, which together better highlight the peat as the star of the show and create a fantastic complexity that i could easily spend an entire evening sipping and appreciating.

this has a moderately long finish that draws out the oak and dark chocolate notes, and ends with a subtle lingering final kiss of smoke so beautiful it's almost like a lover's reluctant farewell.

overall, the Toiteach A Dhà just ticks all the boxes for me - excellent value for money, stunning quality, smooth and easy to drink, and most importantly, a great showcase of sweet and smoky aromas and flavours. while the complex depth of the nosing and tasting experience is best appreciated neat, my favourite way to enjoy this is actually on the rocks, with the ice sharpening the intensity of the smoke and amplifying the smooth sweetness.

i've yet to find another whisky that i love as much as this one, and am very glad that i was able to snag a couple of backups at reasonable prices. even though it's time to bid farewell to this particular bottle for now, there's more where it came from, enough to continue enjoying as a daily dram on those evenings that i don't feel like trying new pours.
