i'm ashamed to admit that i'm one of those people who cooks just to live - i know the basics, but to me it's just another "required-task-to-survive" akin to doing the laundry or vacuuming the house.
i also suspect that my friends knew this when they invited me to join them for the introductory launch course at newly-opened barbecue company Fyregrill last weekend.
Fyregrill has all things barbecue under one roof, from barbecue equipment (such as grills, wood chips and meat thermometers) to ingredients (great cuts of meat and seasonings). they also offer grill cleaning and maintenance services, courses through their barbecue skills academy, and private dine-in experiences.
at the launch course experience, @fyregrillmaster Desmond Tan taught us how to properly prepare, roast and carve up a mouth-wateringly delicious chicken.
we also had a chance to see the upstairs area for dine-in (which hopefully will resume soon when the current restrictions are lifted!)
oh, and i got to take home some goodies too, like this Tramontina chef's knife which was included with my purchase of the launch course experience. wielding it already makes me feel less newb and eager to try new stuff!
one thing from the session that stood out to me was Desmond's infectious passion for food, for barbecuing, and for generously sharing his knowledge with those who are willing to learn.
he's really inspired me to get back in the kitchen (in a good way!) - together with the knowledge from the course and equipped with my new knife, i'm now more confident of embarking on new culinary adventures.
inspired by my scent of the day: Long Winter Soap Co. – «Campfire» (sweet wood smoke and a little white musk and vetiver).
