Staying Afloat (Stereoplasm - O Captain, my Captain!)

"Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead."
 - "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman.

i really enjoyed working around a nautical theme last week. it wasn't all smooth sailing, but i did have fun through all the ups and downs.

sometimes, the size of my collection would be a little overwhelming in terms of choice, so working within a theme helped me narrow down my options.

i also liked that the main theme gave inspiration for some of the posts. after all, sustainability and conservation are two elements that have been very close to my heart since i was young.

i felt that my creativity was really pushed to showcase different styles within the same theme, and it was very satisfying to see a cohesiveness emerge on my page.

that said, having a theme did restrict me from my usual spontaneity. for example, there were days when i felt more forced to follow the theme on #sotd choices, and i had to 'interrupt' the series for world gin day which fell within the week.

i was also worried that readers would think that my content was contrived, or view each day's scribbles as being the product of a pre-prepared assembly line of content instead of my day-to-day experiences.

all things considered though, i'm glad i took this 'deep dive' in challenging myself and having fun in the process.

inspired by my scent of the day: Stereoplasm – «O Captain, my Captain!» (navy rum, leather scabbard, coconut hair, sliced pineapple, ocean, cigar smoke and morning fog).

this post features a perfume that i had purchased at regular price with my own money. i wasn’t asked to review this scent as a condition of receipt and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Stereoplasm and as always, all opinions remain my own.

«Blame, Etc.» is available here (non-affiliate link). prices are US$4 for a 2ml sample bottle (or US$18 for a set of five 2ml samples) and US$20 for a 10ml roller bottle (before shipping).

all information correct at time of publishing.
