when i first started writing online, my dad was one of the first whom i told about this new adventure in my life.
my dad's passion for his hobby of being a freelance journalist inspired me to fall in love with writing as a child, and it meant a lot to me that he supported and was happy for me.
some of my best childhood memories were spent with my dad, who always made time for his family even after a long tiring day at work.
my dad always encouraged me to be strong and independent. he taught me how to change a flat tire even before i got my driver's licence, and patiently tutored me with stick shift (even when i stalled the car at the traffic lights and everyone behind was honking).
when i was a child, i looked up to my dad a lot because it seemed that he knew just about everything (especially in the days before Google search).
but now as a grown-up myself, it's very humbling to realise that there is in fact no automatic level-up, no manual of "how to be an adult 101" that comes with the number of trips i've made around the sun.
and with that dose of reality comes an even greater respect for my dad.
it's not because he had all the answers (or seemed to), but because even though he probably didn't, he still had the courage and determination to try his very best to be a good dad: a leader, a role model, a comforter, a friend.
he did all that while still balancing priorities with his own passions and pursuits, which played such a huge role in making me who i am today.
and i'll never be able to thank him enough for it.
happy father's day, everyone.
inspired by my scent of the day: Sucreabeille – «Papa's Waffles» (fresh waffles, hot maple syrup, cozy flannel shirt, a whiff of bourbon).
