"it's impossible for one individual to make a difference, so why bother? blame the corporations instead!"
we often hear responses like this to justify non-sustainable living, but i can't help feeling that they miss the mark so badly. to me, what matters more than the actions themselves is the correct mindset of proper stewardship that they instill in us and others around us.
blame is well-deserved when it leads to responsibility being taken, but hypocritical blame from atop a high horse isn't worth much. in its right form, blame isn't about pushing responsibility away from ourselves, but calling out accountability where it's needed.
not all of us are called to be marine biologists or climate scientists, but all of us have a duty to live sustainably.
these governments and corporations that "can make a bigger impact than the individual"? they're made up of people like you and me, people whose values have a real influence on the organisation.
change starts from within, and it requires each one of us as individuals to drive it. we need to do more than just identify the problem (and blame its cause) - we must also be part of the solution.
world ocean day is more than just conservation. today is a recognition that all of our lives (from food to fresh water to shipping and much more) depend on the ocean, and the ocean depends on us to protect it. not just by blaming those who have contributed to the problem, but by stepping up to do our part in fixing it, no matter how small our efforts may seem.
inspired by my scent of the day: Stone & Wit – «Blame, Etc.» (coriander, pink pepper, saffron, rose, incense, wood).

this post features a perfume that i had purchased at regular price with my own money. i did receive some additional samples for review together with my purchase, but i wasn’t asked to review this scent as a condition of receipt and didn’t receive any incentives for writing this. i’m not affiliated with Stone & Wit and as always, all opinions remain my own.
«Blame, Etc.» is available here (non-affiliate link). prices are US$4 for a 2ml sample bottle (or US$18 for a set of five 2ml samples) and US$20 for a 10ml roller bottle (before shipping).
all information correct at time of publishing.
