with falloween (a portmanteau of fall and halloween) right around the corner, i've decided to dedicate the entire halloween month to everything sinister and spooky.
fire. brimstone. smoke. wrath. one would assume the worst from a scent named "Number of the Beast", but somehow this perfume takes a surprising turn.
with the first sniffs from the bottle, the neroli and lemon burst forth in a bright citrusy joy, over a soft powdery musk and gentle floral sweetness.
the overall scent gives off a very cheerful outdoors vibe, more akin to morning in the Garden of Eden than nightfall during the end-of-the-world apocalypse.
if i close my eyes, i can imagine myself lying in a field of flowers, each with a beaming happy face and the air filled with their childlike laughter as they sway in the wind.
yet the barest threads of spice and smoke slither underneath it all, eluding all efforts to pin it down as the gleeful smells of spring and summer bloom around me.
i won't deny that i was definitely not expecting such peaceful joy (and subtle evil) to go with the name; though truth be told, it's a breath of fresh air compared to the obvious approach on stereotypically 'dark' scents.
perhaps it's more chilling to remember that even the devil disguises himself as an angel of light; beware the depravity which lies at the core of every man, especially the ones that greet you with outstretched arms and a smile while concealing the lurking darkness within.
📝 official notes: "ylang ylang, neroli, and lemon. powdery civet musk enhanced with notes of leather. spiced sandalwood incense and patchouli."
