Pulp Fragrance – House on Widow's Hill

{undercover review of own purchase}

with falloween (a portmanteau of fall and halloween) right around the corner, i've decided to dedicate the entire halloween month to everything sinister and spooky.

today's scent of the day is «House on Widow's Hill», one of my favourites from Pulp Fragrance.

this is a scent that's masterfully evocative of a sneaky exploration of an old abandoned house at midnight; how best to describe it but through the eyes of the adventurer?

you find yourself in the old abandoned house up on Widow's Hill. booze-fueled truth-or-dare games never end well, and you're starting to regret it as the liquid courage begins to fade.

the moonlight throws long shadows across the hallways, highlighting the carved wooden paneling along the walls.

your feet sink noiselessly into the thick dusty carpet as you cautiously advance towards the heart of the house.

a cold breeze brushes past your cheek.

far off in the house, a door slams.

it suddenly seems as if the very air itself is closing in around you.

pride be damned, you decide to turn back before it's too late.

you sprint back into the main hall. the exit is right there, the main door still slightly ajar where you left it.

just as you run through the middle of the hall, a blazing fire suddenly springs up in the hearth.

you recoil from the intense glare, temporarily blinded.

it takes a while for your eyes to adjust, but then you realise that the darkness which you had mistaken for shadows earlier... they're not shadows.

they're moving.

and they're coming straight for you.
📝 official notes: "brandy as plummy as Roger's accent, old oak paneling, dusty thick carpets, a thread of incense and a roaring fire in the hearth."
