Broken Anatomy Perfumes - Brain Dance

when we really stop to think about it, our brain is a truly amazing miracle with all its functions - from processing power in keeping our bodies running every second of our day-to-day lives, to logical analysis and artistic creativity in our thinking, and the powerful work of chasing, storing and recalling the memories that make us who we are today.

in some sense, it comes as no surprise that Broken Anatomy Perfumes has aptly named its first scent Chasing Memories (which i've reviewed in a previous post here) and chosen the brain as a meaningfully appropriate motif to feature in their full-size bottles and sample vials as well as the other side of this exclusive challenge coin that was included in their discovery set.

i received this discovery set and challenge coin recently as a generous gift from the owner and good friend Ryan (more thoughts in my earlier post here). after my experience with Chasing Memories, i was excited to try their second scent Brain Dance, an exuberant yet calming aquatic inspired by the idea of dancing through a rainforest.

the official description is a beautiful marriage of scientific technicalities and artistic lyricism: "While dancing through a rainforest, cranial nerves I, II, III, IV, VI, VIII, and XI are all stimulated, causing the brain to dance as neurons fire rapidly in a vigorous and colorful experience. This one of a kind aquatic perfume opens with an earthy wave of cardamom and anise followed by a heart geranium, and dries to a rainy ozonic flow of aldehydes to keep the rain drizzling long into the night. Fragrance notes:  anise, geranium⁣⁣⁣, cardamom, aldehydes, oakmoss absolute, ambroxan."

wearing Brain Dance is a surprisingly unique experience. the anise and cardamom come out strongly at the start, though the spiciness is tempered with the blend - smelling this blind, my first impression of that combination was actually more akin to a stylistic play on dark chocolate. after a couple of minutes, the spices / chocolate transition into a bouquet of fresh geraniums in bloom on an overcast day, and over the course of the drydown, the heavens open with a steady downpour that perks up and rejuvenates these vividly-coloured flowers.

true to its description, the rain continued to drizzle long into the night - i had first sprayed this in the late afternoon and was still surrounded by the refreshing aura of fresh flowers in the rain eight hours later. as an extrait de parfum it had a decent sillage of two feet or so which was relatively consistent over the course of the wear.

in both its description and aroma, Brain Dance is a stunningly realistic combination of beautiful wildflowers and cool wet weather, a celebration of nature at its finest as well as a reminder of the responsibility that we have to safeguard and take care of this gift entrusted to us.

8/10 a lovely scent that i'll enjoy finishing my sample of. i may or may not purchase a sample size backup when i'm done - it's an amazing experience though the ozone is a little too niche of an atmospheric to be in my wheelhouse for full-size level of frequent wear.
